Good, solid picture rail hooks |

We've recently put picture rail up all over our house, and purchased a lot of these hooks to avoid putting holes into our walls, and give us some flexibility in moving our artwork around.
One of the things I found with these hooks, and picture rail in general, is that the artwork tends to hang at a much greater angle to the wall than if a traditional picture hooks. To solve this problem, I used a cable stapler. Rather than having a flat top, cable staples have a U-shaped area to make room for a cable, or in this case, the perlon cord. For wood frames, we put a staple into the back of the frame at the top center. For metal frames, we drill a hole in the top of the frame if there is space to do so, for the cord. If there the frame for some reason doesn't support either of these solutions, we move the hook cable as far toward the top of the frame as it can go, and tighten it so there isn't much play.
These solutions worked for us, and now our frames hang closer to the wall.
